Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - Live recording (and video)

The performance was... well... I'm sure you can tell by the moments of memory lapse that it was a long evening and my brain was tired

Hi donjuan,

As usual, you dazzle us with your artistry.  I really enjoyed this performance.  The Rhapsody No. 2 has always been my favorite of the set.  Somehow it seems to have more musical content than some of the other rhapsodies, which seem a bit amorphous somehow.  As for your memory slips, they were of no consequence whatsoever.  You maintained a sure sense of fluency and continuity throughout.   And there is no question that you put the piece over to the audience.  I think you did a wonderful job!  Do you recall the piano in that recital?

I strongly suspected the piano was a Yamaha, but I would have assumed a larger model.  So in my book you deserve even more credit coping with that C1 in a recital.

That's some excellent playing. Your tempos were exciting, and your playing was really clean. I think there could've been more shaping in the intro; I know it's loud and everything, but the little in between notes were pounded too much.

Out of curiousity, what's your reach? I barely have a 9th, and I have lots of trouble in the one part of the Friska where there are jumps of 10ths in the RH, and the RH section right after that when the LH has the off beat melody with grace notes.

I'm playing this on Friday, and it's nowhere near as polished as yours. Great job!

I would just have liked to hear a little more time here and there... seemed to make a dash to the slow sections once you got to the fast sections.  A little more small tempo adjustments and playfulness at the major sections of the fast parts would make it even better (such as the scherzo section).  Overall very well played!!  Bravo!

Yeah, those parts are tiring.  I remember coming back from a 3 week holiday, trying to play the RH of that and really straining my hand.
