Upgrading to Gold Membership
on: January 16, 2007, 07:41:08 AM
I'm thinking of upgrading to Gold Membership
But I'd like to know from other students that have done it whether it's worth it
I'm intrigued by the idea of having lot of sheet available and when in need of something just having to print it instead of having someone bring me to the 10 miles away town to buy the expensive sheets.

But is the selection really that good?
Do you think the Golder Membership helped you in any substantial way?

Thanks

I wouldnt because:
1) I am stingy like that. Cash is strapped onto me.

2) Why bother for the sheet music when a majority of them is found at other places?
Well we are not allowed to post sheet music they have here from other places. Guys, I  am tellin' ya, it's a conzpirazy, hahaha, datz rite.

3) Those gold stars are disturbing/
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

1. you get cool stars under your name
2. you can get unlimated sheet music for 3 dollars a months

i think its very worth it

At first I thought I would only use the gold membership for a short period and that I would print whatever I needed. But I found out that it's very convenient to have all the files organized on the internet instead of heaps of paper.
Also I sometimes only browse  a piece without printing it. I prefer that to going to a store where I have to decide if I want to buy it.

The thing I don't like is all the loose pages. I would prefer a book. Perhaps that's a possibility for later. If possible I would make a selection of pieces and have it shipped to my house, with a nice bind/cover around it.

I own the complete CD Sheet Music series. They are scans, like most things you can find on the net. This is more stuff than I can play in a lifetime. Most scans are identical to the ones found on sheetmusicfox.com, but it's more complete. Still some things are missing, like Debussy's Images oubliées (forgotten Images, ironically), and they are not on PS either. So there would hardly be a reason for me to upgrade the membership. One reason could be a better quality than scans, like in the Mutopia project, where the scores are rewritten using Lilypond. Just look at this:

Greetings.

Whilst having access to a great deal of sheet music is good, even though a vast majority of it is available for free downloading at othersites such as "sheetmusicarchive.net" "pianoru," and other such websites, one must assess how much sheet music one needs at a given point of time. You aren't going to learn ten pieces at once, so why pay for the sheet music that you aren't even going to use? Unless of course you do plan to utilize all of the sheet music in one way or another in short quantities of time, then feel free to subscribe to Gold membership.

I'm not planning to upgrade to Gold Membership any time soon but for what it's worth, I think it helps keep this site up and running  ;) I've been a member of other forums before that closed down due to lack of funding.
