quick compliment
on: January 20, 2007, 12:43:44 AM
i just thought about this today, pianostreet has an enermous music library. I literally have always dreamed about having access to all this sheet music. Nils really did a good job.

Who agrees?
"My advice to young musicians: Quit music! There is no choice. It has to be a calling, and even if it is and you think there's a choice, there is no choice"-Vladimir Feltsman

Nils.  Get the fourth movement of the Boulez Troisieme Sonate and I'll start paying.

Meh. I can just go to my school's library and find thousands and thousands of more scores than are available here ...free of charge.

Get any of Boulez's Quatrième Sonate and all sorts of people might start paying! Seriously - no response yet, so I still have no further news on the existence or otherwise of this piece (beyond what I suspect); had that piano recital to mark the composer's 80th birthday only taken place a few weeks later on the joint birthday of Busoni and Rakhmaninov, the answer might just have been that much more obvious!...

Sure, do that! The sheet music here are conviently grouped and easy to acess and print out. The best thing is that you can keep them. Photocopying all those scores could take a LOT of time.  :)

The PS library rules! ;)

like i said, there are plenty of places on the internet with nice, convenient groupings, easy access, etc that are free of charge. even some copyrighted and obscure works have ben thrown in. sure, the editions arent as good, but thats one sacrifice you have to make for free scores sometimes.

id prefer your obscure, hard to find rubbish over these well scanned common pieces anyday. however, i gotta say it, its a pretty damn good deal here.

I disagree,  I gave the gold membership a try and was completely disappointed.  I do think the stuff collected in the sheet music request section is excellent, and I would suggest a) opening up the library to non-paying members and b) collecting in the library the materials posted in the sheet music request area.  Like a wikki.

The two scores I thought were cool in the PS library were the Liszt B Minor sonata manuscript and the 15 inventions' manuscript.  We should have more freely available manuscripts and first editions.

There are other places for that, though, like https://imslp.org, so probably there is no need to change anything here.  Unfortunately, https://imslp.org is also fairly weak on manuscripts and first editions.
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)
