Short piece
on: January 20, 2007, 07:50:25 PM
Hello,

I'm seeking a short romantic piece : 2/3 pages, for an piano exam
of the same level as Scriabin Etude Op.2 No.1 ( or a bit easier )

Have you any ideas ?

thank you :)

Best regards.

I don't know that etude very well and I'm not sure what kind of music you need
But several of Mendelssohn's songs without words are short, beautiful and not very hard to play
Maybe that will do
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.

almost all scriabin preludes meet this length

One of Grieg's "Lyrical Pieces"
A Schumann "Romance" or "Vogels al Prophete"
A Chopin "Prelude"
A short piece by Brahms or one of his waltzes.

Look at some of the Medtner fairy tales (26/1 comes to mind- it might be 4 pages though).

Check out the Chopin Mazurkas, some of the pieces from Schumann's Fantasiestuckie (op. 12), Scriabin preludes, etc.

Good luck with exams! :)

Medtner Op.26 No.3 in F minor is quite beautiful.

Scriabin Prelude Op.51 No.2 might be a good choice, too.

Just about any of the shorter Grieg Lyric Pieces are perfect for this kind of thing. None of the short ones are above grade 6, I think.

But just for the sake of getting the name out there a little more, I'd have to favor an Alkan prelude too.  :)
