Just Wondering???
on: January 21, 2007, 02:29:27 AM
I started playing piano in the last two years 2005/06 but didn't get formal lessons until March or April last year but I could already play Beethoven's Moonlight sonata, because my friend had taught me it and fur elise. Now my teacher thinks that I should go for fifth grade this year (at the end of the year) but I don't know whether that is possible because I'm currently grade nothing. What is the standard of fifth grade piano? Is it really hard?

That depends, there are two systems that I know of.  ABRSM and RCM, I believe ABRSM is more difficult than RCM.

I never really cared much about grades, I just want to improve and make music.  But grades are useful as a standard in keeping gradual progress and being well-rounded (not neglecting weak areas).

You can skip grades if that's where you're at, nothing wrong with it.  I doubt your teacher would put you into something you couldn't handle.
