Topic: Transcriptions - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (from BWV 147)  (Read 4690 times)

I looked a bit for transcriptions of that piece and it seems that the most popular one is by Myra Hess. Could it be that also Kempf and Gieseking did their own? This was implied on some CD information. If so, how do they differ? Anyway, I'd be interested in them if anybody could share. Thanks!

This has been rather popular with bach transcribers.

Kempf definately did his own version as he wrote it down and i have the score. Giesking, i am not sure, but i do not have the score.

Other versions are bauer, Horne, mansfield, fiorentino.

There is not massive difference as there is really only so much you can do with this melody.

Due to the C word, i cannot post any scores.

I play the Hess version, and like i a lot.  I've seen the Kempf score, but still prefer to play Hess. 
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

In the meantime I also had a look at different transcriptions (Bauer, Hess, Kempf, Mansfield) and also prefer the Hess version. When relaxing my fingers from my current Bach-Busoni torturing (Nun freut Euch), I'm enjoying this one. Audition room, soon... :-)
