Easiest piece ever written?
on: February 01, 2007, 11:26:50 PM
This is going to be fun.   ;D
When discussing the hardest piece, half the people say Rach 3, something by Sorabji or a totally unplayable modern piece which nobody ever listens to. Based upon the complexity. And the other half says 'a slow Mozart movement' or the like. Based upon the simplicity.
But what if we have to find the easiest piece? Hardly Rach 3, apparently not a mozart piece, so what´s left?  ???

I don´t have any ideas myself, sorry to say.

Don´t go 4´33 on me now...

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,3254.0.html - The "easiest" piece ever!

I'm not annoyed, just trying to hand you some resources, searched for "Easiest" under 'Subject Titles' only with the Forum Search feature -  there is plenty more with other specific criteria, like Easiest Cross Handed Piece, and Easiest Liszt piece etc.

I believe Dnephi is reffering to a piece by John Cage (I think that's the name anyway, incase your curious). The 3 Movements confuse me though, I didn't know it was split into any at all... O_o

 Dear Fellows:
I think that 4'33 is not that easy. Of course, it's not about piano playing, but scenic performance.
 Best!

go to a piano, play two middle c's, two d's, two e's, and then another d.

Easiest ever. and it's probably written somewhere, although probably with better notes.

composition 1960 no.3 only requires a perfect 5th 'to be held for a very long time'.  But then I would think that the easiest piece would have to be on that a person who has never played a piano nor can read music should be able to play.

I remember a piece, where you play the middle c note in minims 4 times, and it's called something like..John's Day.
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

Hey, i made the last one, and it's definitely not the most difficult. If you look closely at the notes, you'll notice they're all a's. I suppose you need a pretty good repeated-note technique though.

I wonder if pieces like that actually sound like music, that someone would want to listen to.

do you think people play pieces like that because they find them beautiful/moving? i suspect a lot of people would want to play them for the novelty, i.e. they enjoy the challenge - whether or not they love the piece or not i dont know.
