interesting discovery about chopin preludes!
on: February 12, 2007, 10:40:42 PM
the preludes go up in the number of sharps as they progess and they use the relative minor for the previous major key signature.

example: prelude 1: c major, prelude 2: e minor, prelude 3: g major, prelude 4: e minor. ect...

who else new about this?

i find it quite interesting

Yes, that's interesting. Bach's Preludes & Fuges are ordered chromatically ascending.

Now look at the keys of Chopin's Etudes op.10:

C a    E c#    Gb eb    C   F      f Ab       Eb c

(the C F looks a bit out of order in this system  :D )

Chopin seems to like parallel keys.

Be sure to remember that just because Prelude no.2 starts with an e in the bass, doesn't make it "e minor."
