Impromptu op90 no3, or op142 no2.
I'm an optimist... but I don't think it's helping...

D960. Only 35 minutes.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

Moments Musicaux nº3
Musicals, if you read it.  Schubert had a grammatical error, but it must be done as he did.

Rachmaninoff wrote moments musicaux.  Schubert wrote moments musicals.

ROFL

I am inclined to add the Erlking and the other two final sonatas to that.  ;)

In all seriousness, try, from the Impromptus:

Op.90 No.3 in Gb
Op.90 No.4 in Ab
Op.142 No.3 in Bb

and also the Moments Musicaux (yes, Dan, I know that it's a correction but who cares) and, also, the German Dances.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. From the 'amazing youtube videos' thread the 90/3 impromptu by brendel was posted and after watching/listening to it I'm going to choose that piece.

Thanks again, and feel free to post more,
Henrah :)

Definitely recommend the 90-3.

An absolutely incredible piece of Schubert is his Scherzo from D960 (III), only about 4 minutes long.  I highly recommend it... even alone... although there is really no substitute for the whole sonata.

This question is related to Schubert Impromptu, Op.90 No.3 and not intended to be a hijack. If this post needs to be moved to another category within the forum, I won’t be offended.

In my edition (Buonamici) of Op.90 No.3, the time signature shows two cut time symbols side by side.  The open ends of the cut time symbols are facing each other.  I’ve never seen this before.  Is there a name for this?  It seems to be the same as 4/2.  Is there a difference between 4/2 and the symbol I've described?

Musicals, if you read it.  Schubert had a grammatical error, but it must be done as he did.

Rachmaninoff wrote moments musicaux.  Schubert wrote moments musicals.

Has nothing to do with a difference btw. Rach and Schubert: It's a French language matter! For a masculine word such as "Moment": Musical (singular), musicaux (plural) -- So, if you refer to a single "moment" it has to be musical; if you refer to multiple "moments" (like the whole set) it has to be musicaux.

Were "moment" feminine, the plural would have to be "musicales". "Musicals" does not exist, unless you were refering to a Broadway show...To my knowledge though Franz Schubert did not write for Broadway ;-)

Turning to more substantive issues: Yes, moments musicaux are all great for your purposes, but also look into the tons of dances, waltzes etc you will find plenty of gems!

Try 'Der Muller und der Bach' Liszt transcription. A very nice piece
