Performance degree over summers ???
on: March 25, 2007, 01:48:05 AM
??? Okay, this is a little bit off subject, but does anyone know of a college or university that offers graduate piano performance degrees/courses during the summer time?  I am a public school music teacher and i need to start on my masters, really would like to do one in performance but would be impossible to accomplish during the school year.  I'm in NYS so if there are places close that would be best...I would GREATLY appreciate info or school websites if anyone has any.  THANKS!  :)

You have the energy to do that?  What about the amount of practice necessary during the year?  It can't all be done during the summer can it?

I suppose anything is possible.  If you find out, let us know.  It's an interesting idea.

You wouldn't have the same crop of students you would have during the year.

Not to teach.  I want to obtain a masters degree in performance, but all places I know of only offer it during the academic year, when I am working as a teacher.  This would be over a couple of summers, not just one.  I'm always practicing so I'm not too worried about having the time and energy for that, it's just finding a program.  I dunno, just thought someone might know of one.  If not, I'll just get a masters in something else!

Must it be a masters in performance?? there are many external diplomas that can be taken which are of masters level performance but do not contain the academic level of preparation..essentially assessed recitals..some of these are FTCL(trinity college), FLCM(London college)FRSM (royal schools) these can be taken in most places and you prepare for them yourself - just go in and take the exam - they could be done in a summer recess! Im afraid Having studied curriculum development I dont know anywhere that offeres a masters in summer school format..not yet anyway.  Have you got a contact for your local conservatories?? try e-mailing the heads of keyboard and ask them if they know of anything or good alterantives. They are the most likely to have their fingers on the pulse.
