Might be both movements. As for the date, sorry, I'll be out on vacation for the next 4 weeks. So August 15th will be the first safe date. Does it suit you?

I have been wasting time for a while and need some motivation to practise. A duel of any of the following would be great:
Chopin nouvelle etudes 1 or 2
Chopin etude op.25 no.5
Bach italian concerto slow mvt
Brahms op. 119 no.3
Schubert sonata D664 1st mvt
Rach etude tableaux op.33 no.2
5 or 6 weeks time for the harder ones, or 2 or 3 for the easier ones.
Anyone???

ok.  let's play the schubert.  wait.  i don't have the music.  can somebody post it?  or, i could play the chopin etude opus 25 #5.  i have that score.  i think i also printed out the novelle etudes - i'll  look for them because i don't know where i put them.  ihave stacks of music everywhere.

...I was referring to the Schubert one ^^ and I can't play Chopin Etudes for jack except the easier ones like op. 25 no. 9

Prongated could you pleaaaaaaase try and do both the Schubert and the Chopin? Would 6 weeks practice be enough to get the chopin passable? (even if we give two disasterous etude recordings, you will have another chopet sort of in your rep). I REALLY need a reason to go nuts with the practice, and this certainly would be one.

there you go!  three people to 'duel' with.  don't think i'm going to be an easy target (cough cough) - because my kids go back to school in two weeks.  i'll turn into a maniac.  schubert day and night.  what for?  is there any money in this?  no matter.  yes.  we are all crazy.  although schubert is good for weddings and parties, right?

Okay, the schubert is a definite, but i would much rather finish off this damned chopet than the rach. If i can't persuade prongated to take the bait then i will do the rach instead, although i'm only about 8 bars in at the moment.

anyway, the point in this duel in the first place is to get you to learn your pieces.

The motivation for practice comes from the fact that there is a deadline that you are both sticking to. If you decide not to bother, or simply give up (which isn't out of the question) then there is a chance i may be tempted to do the same. If, on the other hand, i am preparing a piece with someone who will definitely bother to finish the piece, then I will force myself to do the same. If it were that easy to motivate myself to practice a piece to perfection in a few weeks without the carrot of the duel, then i wouldn't bother doing it at all,  would I?

schubertiad - i found the score for the schubert in the 'international music score library project' and recognized it right away.  ok.  i can basically sightread the first movement.  piece of cake.  let's do this september 1st and not october.  that way you can have the rest of the time to work the rach or chopin.

Pianistimo: The schubert certainly isn't rach 3, but i would like to learn it very thoroughly, not just rush it together, and i'm not sure 2 weeks will be enough. How about mid-september?
Besides, aren't you sometimes guilty of half learning pieces yourself? Here is a chance to really 'nail' something instead. And if you're looking for a challenge then try the chopin or rach as well.

you mean playing it?  yours will be polished.  mine will be  - well, i am working on something right now.  i don't like taking those middle c's with the right hand and am sneaking them in with the left hand - so i can keep the train going down the tracks.  i can't wait to post my 'trash' - and probably will not bother with the two extra weeks.  schubert bores me a little bit.  but, i love him immensely.  probably doesn't make any sense at all.  he was such a good songster.  i just don't like the repetitive schumanesque dotted eighths everywhere.  i'm certainly not one that goes around skipping every moment of the day.  in fact, some days i just want to bash schubert and schumann - but mozart i never do.  why?  strange.  when i feel in the mood - schubert and schumann are like icy popcicles.  on bad days - like dripping sugary stickiness.

my power cord causes this immense static - so it will be a few more minutes before i post my first 'happy happy.'  actually, this morning - my feelings match the mood.  i don't know why.  usually i am at my peak around 11 am  2 pm.  and 3 am.

Haha had you not seen that? I was a bit shocked too, and thought that 2 weeks would never be enough time. Normally an average sonata movement would take me about a month. Well, I panicked, started working hard, and found that a week later I had it learnt. The problem is that no run through is perfect, and the mistakes happen at different points each time. In order to perfect it i want to leave it for about a month, and then tackle it again, which should cut out some of the stupid mistakes. Unfortunately I don't have that luxury for our duel, so it will just be posted in its current state instead.
Btw I've seen some of your youtube videos and they're all great, so you should be fine!

ill do the octave study. relatively easy if you have good octave technique. still doing rach 33/2 for a duel its coming along.

alright...but just to warn you, i'm going to take a pretty long time now cauz i'm learning a few other pieces that my teacher recently gave me plus a whole lot of other stuff.
