ive seen numerous topics about the hardest ones,but what about the favorites?
mine is 25/7. so deep and beautiful

Well, you asked for 3, so I'll give you 3...

10/10, 25/11, and 10/7, in that order. Op.10 No.10 in Ab major is so pretty, and the climax is so potent, but my favorite part is the slow E dominant seventh cascade that leads back into the main theme.

Of course, you can't go wrong with the sheer fury and power of Winter Wind.

Actually, that one is my favorite too!  I would think that people would find it strange... but it really is an amazing peice.  So beautiful.... Chopin was a genius when it came to composing left hand figurations.  This is one of the many examples, it reminds me of a cello for some reason.  The only other time that a piano has ever done that for me is when I heard someone play the first variation in Liszt's Don Juan slowly and really legato. (I think that's what Busoni actually instructed)

25/7 - Because ^

10/2 - I think that there are some etudes that are indespensible studies (and peices of music.)  This one, 10/1, 25/6, 25/12 and peices of similar "demands" (Feux Follets, for example) are almost a must.  Plus I think it just sounds pretty damn cool.

10/9 - This etude and and 25/7 have (apparently) been recognized as the two etudes where opera was the "heaviest" influence.  I've heard people call this peice "the Opera etude," but I think that this etude has many more musical qualities then just that of "opera."  Plus, I think (since it isn't all that technecally demanding) it is ignored somtimes, so that's always an issue.

I also really like 10/1, cause it's beautiful and gives so many pianists trouble.  10/10, because it takes a lot of skill to pull of effectivly (it even needs a good piano.)

opus 10 #1 is surprisingly simple and yet takes such interesting turns harmonically.  it's like a story.  i'm beginning to like it - whereas before i thought it was kinda 'blah.'  my hands are slightly burning today.  two pages memorized.  somewhat off target because this is day three.

Hard to limit it to three, that's the problem. I have about six favourites and had to select more or less at random.
