Can you attach them to a post here? I'm interested in hearing them. I've played Tajcevic, and his "Seven Balkan Dances" made it onto a few of my university recitals.

Hi radmila,

Tajcevic, I think, is "an acquired taste".  He takes a little getting used to.  In listening to his music (I went to the Variations in Cm first, since I had never heard it before), he composes with a great deal of contrast--tempos, moods, touch and articulation, etc.  At times his music is extremely colorful and flashy, yet he can also produce deep, somber, and dark moods too.  Some of his lighter pieces, like the dances, remind me of Bartok in their use of folk material and his highlighting national ethnic rhythms.  I am glad that he's a tonal modern composer, ha-ha!  His music makes sense to me.  In addition to the Bartok similarities, I detect a faint trace of neo-romanticism there.  For some reason when I was listening to the Variations in Cm (I had never heard the piece before),  it was somehow reminded of Rachmaninoff's Variations on a Theme by Corelli.  There might be a little influence of Medtner in the mix too.  Tajcevic is not easy to classify!  Most importantly, though, I want to compliment you on your wonderful artistry.  I was most impressed!

What do you think of his piano music?
