free learning tool for the Circle of Fifths
on: April 19, 2007, 06:11:39 PM
Good evening,

as I had to learn the circle of fifths myself lately I wondered if there are any free learning tools around on the net. I didn't find one and programmed one myself. The site went online on 9. April. Please take a look here and tell your students about it, in case you like it.

Suggestions are of course most welcome :)
Yours, Jan

Jan,
I love your website and found it very different from any other one I've been on.

I feel it's helping me with improvisation - because sometimes I get the secondary dominants mixed up with thinking forward through the circle -
which doesn't work, of course.

a lot of fun!

Hi,

the major keys are in capital letters and the minor keys are in small letters.

Otherwise please take a look here: https://www.circle-of-fifths.net/lesson08.html

If this doesn't solve your answer, can you please give a more detailed question?

Thanks in advance and best greetings from Hamburg in Germany. Yours, Jan

I know, I saw that.  I was asking what about C# major and Cb major, what happened to those keys?  You need to go one more for sharps and one more for flats.  The total number of sharps and flats is 7.

I can't do it in a circle, but here's how it would read clockwise from C

C    G    D    A    E     B     F#   C#
Cb   Gb   Db   Ab   E   Bb   F   C

There are 3 keys that overlap, not just one.

Sorry for my very late reply. I got the same question by others. And have to admit, that it was lazyness on my side. In addition I got mails telling it is good that I left out those 2 keys because it is the same principle as with the one on position 6 o'clock....

Anyway:
www.circle-of-fifths.net just reached 20.000 visitors :)
Thanks again for your help and making it a success.

Still suggestions are welcome..
Yours, Jan
