Prokofiev sonata no. 6

Which recording of this piece do you think is best? I've probably listened to ten recordings, with my favorite being Frederic Chiu's.

Lugansky, possibly.

Although for the first movement, the video of Victoria Korshinskaya-Kogin in the 2006 International E-Competition is just ferocious.

There is a live recording of young Richter (I think it is from 60s).
This recording is absolutely ASTOUNDING. Nobody comes even close to it.

Funny, Neuhaus described Richter's performance of 4th movement as a "fire in bordello".

For a complete Sonatas set I like very much Yakov Kassman. IMO, his recording is by far superior than Chiu.

It's  from a Carnegie Hall recital in 1960, I think. I have that disc, it's astonishing.

As is Pogorelich's recording from the 80's, my favorite.

I checked it, no, my version is from Saint Petersburg from 1964. It is issued on a quite scarce label "Leningrad Masters", so I am not sure as for its availability.

Yes, Pogorelich is good.

Best, M

That was amazing.  I loved her.

And other then that, I'd reccomend one of Kissin's performances (I don't remember which one...)

Yokav Kasman is good as well.  He was the one that introduced me to Rachmaninoff.  (By playing his first sonata, which is still my favorite to date.)

Tried to search old E-comps. and could not find. Any links?

I, personally, can't pick one definitive recording of this piece. Some days, its Richter. Some days, its Raekallio. Then Hough. Then Pogorelich. This is just one of those pieces, I guess.

Richter or Pogopogopogopogo for me.
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata
