Finale 2006 question
on: May 08, 2007, 12:49:13 AM
I don't know if anyone considers themselves an expert in finale 2006 but I have a question i hope someone can answer for me.

I'm trying to place ties overtop a barline.  They are ties that signify the resonance of tied notes from several measures earlier.  I have been unable to figure out how to place those in the score, unless i create slurs that are not tied to a particular note.  however, doing things that way, the slurs are all uneven, and don't have a consistant look to them.  anyone have any ideas?

where'a alistair?  wait - he does this by handwriting everything.

perhaps just handwriting that particular thing could be done?  although i've never seen this in music (holding ties from measures previously - if the notes are replayed in any way). to me - that is what accents and long notes are for.  but, i could be misunderstanding what you are attempting to do.

I think there's some of function where you can draw your own symbols in.  That might work.

Here's a guess.  Create notes in a separate layer, tie them, then make only the notes invisible but show the ties.  I think there are also L.V. note heads stored somewhere and you can use them as alternates.

I'd really like to know myself how to do this where the positioning of the ties is consistent and reliable.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Interesting thought.  I will give that a try!  As long is it allows you to hide the notes only.  Funny since i've been trying to do this, i've been looking at other published scores, like the kapustin i posted.  You can tell that this is a common problem.  Notice the uneveness of the ties in that piece.  Myabe it's not that big of a deal to have them perfect.
