Oh, good. I've never had a great memory but this year would have been the first time I'd remembered something two months early...

Your sentiments are nice but let's not forget that mother's day is ultimately  just a cynical marketing exercise by retailers.

The concept was originally dreamed up by a greeting card manufacturer to flog more cards. Now it's just another opportunity to flog everything from flowers to slippers to skateboard lessons.

You are being manipulated by the dark forces of capitalism...BEWARE

Or if you prefer the feminist take ... mother's day is an attempt to keep women in a state of subjection by glorifying their role as domestic slaves and an attractive packaging for a womb.

You are being manipulated by the dark forces of patriarchal oppression .... BEWARE

(OK, go ahead and tell your mum ya love her. But don't accept things on face value)

 ;)

PS: Yes, I have accepted my "world's best mum" mug without complaint....

Bach almost persuades me to be a Christian.

my five year old must have a sixth sense.  she said after breakfast...mom, i think you look young.  whatever made her say that - i don't care.  this is what every child should tell their mother on mother's day.  and, she gave me a hug and kiss without chasing her around.  the other two give out hugs and kisses like they are rationed.  what is it about hugging your mom?  is there something innate that kids don't like hugs.  mother's day is nothing without a hug.
