you must be pleased with a monumental achievement to memorize a piano concerto! i didn't think the orchestra had rustic charm, though. they were terrible. how you managed to remember your part, i don't know. imo, you made this worth listening to by your playing. i would have shot one of the flute players on the spot, many of the violinists. only the timpanist would be spared. well, possibly the oboist. but, that is because he showed potential.
this whole thing is making my attention divert to 'what an orchestra is supposed to do.' imo, the reason there are 'first' violinists, and 'first' flutists, etc. is to help give pitch and cues to the others. some are so numbskulled that they 'go it alone' and forget they are playing with an orchestra. like everyone is going to wait for them. i'd run an orchestra like a military camp. if you don't bow your violin like the first violinist for every phrase - you get a violin lesson right in the middle of orchestral rehearsal. that would be embarrassment enough to help them actually get together and play during the week at times that are not orchestral rehearsals. easier said than done, though, i suppose - since people often work and have different schedules. but, i mean - i watched this kind of tragedy unfold at an oratorio - where the two violinists behind the 'first' were joking and eyeing one another - completely oblivious of the first violinist (who was much better than them, btw).
