Here's a few:

Does anyone else here think the opening of Liszt's 'Orage' (AdP - Suisse No.5) sounds like the Gymnopedie from Hell?

There you go. A lot of pleasure, not an easy job.
If anyone has something of Oscar Peterson, I'm interested to.

Oh and by the way, do you have any recording of these transcriptions? I have quite a lot of Oscar, but I can't find these versions.

Tatums playing of that song reaches new heights of beauty.

Regretfully, the Classical pianist that recorded a lot of Tatums transcriptions did not.

Tis a shame, as the same pianist recorded the Liszt v Thalberg disc and it was very good.

Listening to him play jazz reminds me a little of Menuin playing Jazz. He has just not got the "swing" and is stiff to put it mildly.

All of Tatums works are of course copyrighted.

I don't think that it has ever been written down.

When Mayer played it, it was an improvisation on a tune that Tatum played as an improvisation.

Sheet music for Tatum is pretty pointless, since i dont think he ever played the same piece the same way again. Most of the attempts that i have seen, are not that good but do serve as a template for experiment.

I think Mayer worked out his own arrangement of Emaline and plays it like a corpse.

This CD should be blasted into atoms.

You could actually write to Mayer. I suggest the following:

Dear Mr Mayer,

I have recently wasted £10 of my hard earned money on your Art Tatum Improvisations disk. God know what your are improvising on, but it sure aint Tatum.

Your playing is stiff, straight, and about as close to Jazz as Clementi.

It is my intention to start to learn Tatums music, with the song "Emaline", which is incidentally the one you make the biggest hash of.

I wonder if you would be so kind as to share with me the written notes, on the understanding that i will play it nothing like you did.

Regards
