faure ballade op.19
on: May 19, 2007, 03:04:17 AM
I've never seen this piece of work being performed.

Anyone know much about this piece? good to study? good for recital?

It is an outstanding work.  Many shun it because it lacks the virtuoso glitter, but it is beautiful and well-written.

It's a very nice and beautiful piece. It is often played on my local radio station, yet it is not too well known. I guess it is on its way, heh.

Here is the sheetmusic (solo piano). It is also performed with piano and orchestra, but there aren't many differences.

There's and Ogdon recording.
Anyone know the later fantasie for piano and orchestra? Was reading a book on him and it's mentioned briefly but I have never heard or heard of it.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

I have heard the later fantasie, and it doesn't compare whatsoever with the ballade, which I think is a small, neglected masterpiece.

Thank you very much for the sheetmusic.
