Song played using one finger
on: March 13, 2004, 04:10:27 AM
I went to a piano concert last year and there was a piece that was played, and it was meant to only be played using one finger. Has anyone ever heard of a piece like this?

Maybe John Cage's own transcription of 4'33" for single finger arrangement:  the finger is what actually opens and closes the fallboard.

That was a joke, a poorly executed joke.  So poorly executed that it's not even funny.  So not funny that I had to write this to make it know that it was a joke because not being funny and poor execution makes up for nothing if it lacks those two attributes of a joke.  It's also a poke at the craptations of John Cage's music.

Anyway,
What was the piece called or is that your question...?  It was probably written by a mid to late 20th century composer.  Our period is filled with "composers" who can't compose:  didn't recieve any composition lessons as a kid until they reached college age, couldn't play the piano either, and to pay the bills they became "composers".  Or, the composer had all of his fingers chopped off in an accident and only had a useable finger to pluck at keys and voila~ "I went to a piano concert last year and there was a piece that was played, and it was meant to only be played using one finger. Has anyone ever heard of a piece like this? "
