Martha Argerich
on: March 13, 2004, 04:32:21 AM
I am trying to collect CDs of piano concertos. Martha Argerich's playing of Rach 3 and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1 are real electrifying. Is she in semi-retirement? How's her illness? Is it under remission? Sure hope she will give solo recitals in the future, but I understand that she does not like doing that.
Is there an updated website on her whereabouts?
Being reclusive and mysterious only adds to her cult figure in the classical music circle.
BTW, are pianists prone to depression and emotional outbusts?

Even if she does kick the bucket, we've still got the highly worshipped Meiting Sun, Robert Henry, and "Ed Argerich".

i don't know how she is, but what you should add to your collection is prokofiev 1st, bartok 3rd, beethoven 1st and 2nd and schumann - she's wonderful!

Great artists aim for perfection, while knowing that perfection itself is impossible, it is the driving force for them to be the best they can be - MC Hammer

She's giving a concert :
- in London on the 20th of March
- in Paris on the 27th and 28th of May in duo with Nelson Freire. 27th has been sold out for a long time already (28th was added afterwards)
She gave an interview to the French magazine "Le monde de la Musique" in Feb 2004. You can find a translation of it here :
