Thank you very much. I was trying to find something on the official site, which is one of the most poorly designed websites I have ever seen in my life, btw. Now if I can only figure out the schedule and the conversion to my time zone here in the U.S.  ;D

I am rooting for Maria Mazo.

Her performance included a fantastic Scriabin!!! but the main part was Appassionata and as far as I'm not much of Beethovenian, I can't really say if she was good or not.

A bunch of people, including Ingolf Wunder who, apparently, sucked.

I'm kinda uspet as well.
Her Scriabin 4th sonata was so great... But her Appassionatta apparently was not convincing.

Because none of the contestants were good enough. All of them played worse in their 3rd round than in their 1st and 2nd round. I didn't watch the finals so I am only writing on behalf of the judges. But I have heard from many people that this is true.

Just for the record this have happened several times before. Also in the Chopin competition.

I do really think that it wasn't for political reasons this time, but this is only the way I see it.

Except for Kultyshev, who played, in several peoples opinion, better. His prok 3 was amazing, but it was not enough to reach the 1st place, no pianists showed that they had what it takes to reach the top. And yes, the rest played much worse then when i heard them in previous rounds. Poor amirov, he must have been nervous as hell.

Oh there was some amazing politcal screw ups this year. All to do with money, and people studying. I know some people in it, who are studying in UK now, and graduated from Moscow last year. And that sort of screwed them up. One was a major prizwinner this year, and in my opinion should have gone to the final. He  got more money from it than the person who got 3rd prize from audience prizes or whatever... yet he didn;t make the final And I no the reasons and I'm not allowed to say, but I can tell you that it is appauling

...this is no longer the case with the Chopin, I think...the year Yundi Li won it was the first time they had the ruling that the 1st prize must be awarded...

...haven't seen Lim's concerto performance, but his Dumka was quite a something...

I think it is so sad and disheartening that a competition which was once the most prestigious in the world of music has become almost irrelevant.

And I think it's sad and disheartening that these competitions should hold much relevance at all, for they are a system and an environment foreign to music and inspiration, and damaging to musicians and musicality.
