What's happened?

When I joined (bout 1 1/2 years ago), I don't recall there being so much feuding and arguing amongst members.  Was it a newbies ignorance?
Anywho, most people I would gather dislike the arguments that take place especially on certain subjects, yet continue to prompt and attack.
I realise it would be hard, people like to start argumentative topics but they always degenerate into arguments.  I'm not proposing a stop to these sorts of things, but it's hard to see another solution.

I think this is a very interesting matter. People on this forum may gear a little bit more towards open hate and insults because everyone here is anonymous and the only consequence of poor behavior is the risk of banning, which in itself isn't really that bad, as opposed to say going to jail. There are no boundaries. If this place was anything like it is in not in internet, people would behave politely. This forum is like a medium for emotions. People in life feel the emotions but don't express them as openly in fear of punishment. Here, there is no punishment, so the emotions are expressed more freely.

How to ameliorate the situation? Well, the only solution I see would be something on the verge of the moderator contacting some officials who will induce serious punishment such as a charge or community service. In another thread here I stated that there is a fine line between moderation and dictatorship, and if things would get to the extent that misbehavior would result in real punishment, no one will spend time on this forum, let alone misbehave. So in that sense I think that it is impossible to fix the situation. It is as it is.

Forcing members to behave is impossible, as conflicts will innately arise due to a wide diversity of opinion, and insults will still result. I find it interesting that many banned members create new accounts, so that may be the culprit of bad forum conduct.

The character of the forum changes.  I think my expectations change too so what I look at changes in time.  Every six months or so I notice the old crop of posters is gone and a new group comes in.  Fortunately there are several who stick around around and keep things grounded.

Nobody would argue on the net if they had something better to do.

That said, I've spent my share of time arguing when I could've been doing something better.  Yes, it was out of boredom.

So maybe it's also procrastination?  'Instead of doing ANYTHING else, I'll first sit here and write up a tedious arguement'

I really can't see a way to stop that unless they block their IP but even that can be changed.

True, and the lack of anything worth responding to on the piano boards.

I admit, that late at night if i am a little bored, i will sometimes post something that i know will result in a thousand words from Pianistimo.

Knowing that there can be no "punishment" i think is a good thing. People don't have to hold back on their feelings.

I think there are a lot of more or less redundant threads created which are always going to result in argument eventually. I think I will create a spoof one: "Who is the greater composer, Xenakis or Palestrina - discuss?". Just kidding.

it is human nature to expand and evolve and it has passed on to the internet, every person is different and each has its views on life which will be discussed and in the end arguements will ensue

I have found there to be a diverse amount of differences in the forum which brings about the 'arguements' however i can say this only with what i have seen so far there is no bad blood between anyone, i have seen people disagreeing in one thread and in another at the same time thet=y are siding against others.

Rather then making a fractured community i beleive this has almost evolved into a type of utopia where even though everyone is allowed to voice their own opinions, although they are most likely going to be laughed at lol
