Style -- It's what you notice?

That idea just popped into my head.  Style, or elements of style, are those things that stand out, that you notice, that make it different.

I was just browsing through some music, figuring out what it was I noticed and what that was exactly in the music.

That makes sense.  Then we wind up imitating what we like, over time developing a unique style which truely is an expression of our personality.  Whatever we don't like doesn't get noticed, or we run from it!

Even someone's CD collection could be considered a sort of style.

Yes, but that's what I'm critizising all the time!

Many People aren't interested in the concrete music, but only in style.
So 1 (one) Mozart Sonata in a recital is enough.
1 P&F from Bach
2 Etudes from Liszt etc.

But if you want really to know, what Mozart has composed, you should go to a concert with all Mozart pieces, for example: 2 Sonatas, some Variation works, some early works, some Bach inspired works etc.

Enter the world of Mozart, not only his "style"!

that's a great point, counterpoint!  i never really thought of it like that.  have you played all the WTC preludes and fugues at the church recital yet?  or is it coming up this week?  i love that idea!  *wonders whether american audiences would start snoring.  but, i would love to hear this myself.

it would be so nice to hear it.  sorry that you can't record it at home - but perhaps they will at the church.  i hope they do! 

i would be tempted to use all of my extra sounds - such as strings, syth voice, brass, etc.  for various preludes and fugues.  then - people get the idea of voicing and how much bach used it in the ideas for the fugues. that the prelude was a sort of organ preparation for many voices singing.  or the mass choir - and then, just a few select voices.

That's not possible in real time - there is more than one voice per hand, and the middle voices jump between the hands all the time. If one wants to do so, the voices have to be recorded separately and then mixed together with a multi track or sequencer program. Just like Wendy Carlos did. Her Bach on Synthesizer recordings are excellent!
