George Steck vs Gulbransen
on: June 19, 2007, 10:05:20 AM
Hi..need some advice:
We have a baby grand Gulbransen built in the mid 30's with original ivory keys. Tone is a little bright and the action was reworked but still isn't up to my liking. We can swap to a George Steck baby grand - completely rebuilt around 20 years back but now has plastic keys. This piano was also built in the mid 30's and has a smoother action and slightly better tone...plus I learned to play on it.
Both pianos require some work, but wife thinks the finish is better on her Gulbransen. She also plays and thinks they sound alike.
Which one would you restore?
