OK this isn't a real important question, but I was recently looking at schumann tocatta op. 7, and i just have to ask if you need big hands to play this piece??

just wondering  ::)

Haha, well I'm not familiar with the piece, but looking at your user name, you're a guy- and you probably have larger hands than I do!  I've never encountered a piece that I couldn't play- and I have teeeeeeeny hands!  I can easily play pieces with 13 or 14 note spans- you might have to sacrifice the chords and play them rolled or broken up- just move those hands and fingers fast!  :)

it moves fast and relentlessly so i think there's not enough time! but may be the only way short of leaving notes out or growing.

wasn;t it schumann who invented a machine to stretch out his hands and ruined his career as a pianist? you'd think that he would not want to encourage such behavior in future generations... oh well, back to pieces i can play.

Hi,
You could use sustain pedal to play large acords, to scan all notes from bass to shrill in very very short time.
My humbly recomendation is like that:)
