Self-tuning piano
on: July 10, 2007, 02:13:47 AM
Does anyone know what happened to Don's self-tuning piano?  The old link seems to be broken, though initially, it was supposed to go  into production by 2003. DG's email doesn't work anymore -- does he have a new email address?

Maybe they're still trying to get a patent?  Last I heard (https://mmd.foxtail.com/Archives/Digests/200302/2003.02.07.09.html) was that they were hoping to get the patent published in a few months (as of Feb 2003).  I haven't heard anything else.

Also, here's the press release from the company with the rights to manufacture the system (Feb 2002): https://www.qrsmusic.com/press_details.asp?rid=28

Don had a contract with QRS/Story & Clark to manufacture the sytem but they didn't come through so now he's doing it himself.  He recently posted the story on Piano World.  Here's the link...scroll down to his name eromlignod about half way down:

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
