Home for a piano
on: July 23, 2007, 02:18:20 AM
I'm looking for ideas and experiences here, to what kind of room a baby grand piano would be best in.  So far my thoughts are a big room with a vaulted ceiling, hardwood floors.  I'm thinking more resonance = good, but maybe some have experienced otherwise?

Vaulted ceiling means the top floor, so no twisty stairs.  Big room might mean the same space as livingroom and kitchen...  Near porch might be nice, to open windows and let music spill into the street.  I like hearing music when I'm walking down the street, and we've gotten some appreciation for porch jams in the past, it doesn't happen often enough.

So I'm curious, where do you keep your piano and what're the pros/cons of that environment?  any good places you've seen?  or just some thoughts and ideas?

I keep my piano in the extra living room/parlour, when the house was bought, the owner sold us the piano too.

If you want to keep your piano near windows, make sure you have good, heavy curtains to block off the sunlight when you are not playing it as too much exposure to the sun can damage the piano. Yes a big nice room is ideal, just perfect!

Thank you!  That hadn't occurred to me
