Studio games
on: March 26, 2004, 04:25:26 PM
Hi,
(I know this kind of this isn't acceptable to all teachers so if you're opposed to using gimmicks then please just agree to disagree, thanks.)
This fall I'll be setting up a studio instead of teaching out of my living room. I'm going to push for more 45 minute lessons than 30 minute, so I can do more things with them. One thing is I want to incorporate games - maybe bingo, memory, definitely flash cards, and I would like some suggestions. I'm ordering "Music Mind Games" to get some ideas from but I'd like to hear from other teachers.
One great idea we came up with last night ('we' being myself and a 9yo student) is to create a board game on the wall and each student will have a game piece, as they learn pieces or scales or whatever they will move ahead. I haven't worked out any details yet but we're going to lay it out like a castle. I think it will be fun and encourage just enough competitiveness to keep some of them practising.
