Fingering in Gershwin prelude no.1
on: August 24, 2007, 12:33:30 AM
I had a question about the fingering of the Left hand of the last passage in the first prelude. This scale Db Eb F G Ab Bb C.
I played it with  3   2   1 4  3  2   1   then my teacher adviced me to use 4 3 2 1 3 2 1

What do you think, which is better and which makes me comfortable when playing it at speed and lightly (as it is supposed to be played) ?? I can't think of any other possible fingerings !

I agree with your teacher.  Any other fingering will be awkward in comparison.

4 3 2 1 3 2 1 in the left should allow you to play much faster, I am learning this and I use that fingering.

I prefer and use your teacher's fingering, though the last 3 notes I use 3, 2, 1.
Good luck,
Rami

If you cut most of your fingers off there would be no choice of fingering would there?
