Rami goes to New Zealand
on: August 30, 2007, 11:51:28 AM
Hey All,

In September I'll be going to NZ for the 4th time.
Will be giving 5 concerts, 5 master classes and private lessons.

In addition, I'll also be doing 4 full days of "Rami's Rhapsody Piano Camp", which will include master classes, individual lessons, ensemble playing, accompaniment coaching, and evening lectures/workshops/presentations.
Best regards,

Rami

what program will you be using?

let me take a guess:

Liszt: Liebestraume
Liszt: hungarian rhapsody no.2
Chopin: heroic polonaise.
Gershwin: rhapsody in blue

LOL

I think the last 2 will be on the list...not sure about the top 2...and don't forget Bar-Niv's own works.

...is that really a problem? I listened to the Chopin Polonaise again - it's rather nice :) although...

Rami, I'm sure your repertoire's bigger than that. A lot bigger. Should like to hear Beethoven from you, for instance...or the op. 61 Polonaise ;D

Of course my repertoire is bigger than that, or else it is hardly enough for even half of a recital.
Actually my repertoire is very big and varied.
Not only recital pieces, but also concertos, let alone chamber music, and this includes all periods and styles from the Baroque to the present time.
Just with the Jerusalem Symphony alone, I played and recorded 20 times, different concertos.
When the original MP3.com site was "alive", I had about 300 items on it.
Best,
Rami

What's wrong with these pieces:
Liszt: Liebestraume
Liszt: hungarian rhapsody no.2
Chopin: heroic polonaise.
Gershwin: rhapsody in blue

Crowd-pleaser...seat-filler...overplayed...every man and his dog (including the dog) play them...you get the idea...especially the top 2...I'm sure there are much better pieces of music out there that you can fit in your program - but it's your concert.

...therefore I think it mystifies some of us that you chose to keep mostly the same pieces again and again for all your concerts that you've made us aware of. Why not program different things? And I think we (or at least I) are (am) also curious to hear your interpretation on even more works! [having heard your op.53 Polonaise makes me want to hear your op.61, for example]

Crowd-pleaser...seat-filler...overplayed...

These are not dirty words for me. If I don't please my audience, I won't get invited again; if I don't please my promoters, i won't get invited again. I actually get many compliments on my programing.
An overplayed piece does not matter to me, it is the way it is being played that matters.

every man and his dog (including the dog) play them...you get the idea...

I got the idea when you said overplayed, the rest about "every man and his dog" is plain silly and unnecessary.

especially the top 2...I'm sure there are much better pieces of music out there that you can fit in your program - but it's your concert.

It sure is my concert, or rather my concerts.

I chose to keep mostly the same pieces again and again for all the concerts I've made you aware of. We are talking about concerts in June and in September.  That's a period span of 4 months.
The standard of touring pianists has always been doing the same program for a whole year.
Thanks for wanting to hear me on more works. I don't have more videos available at the moment. Converting old videos takes a lot of time and I also don't have everything in my repertoire recorded on videos. Also some old audio recordings I have were not preserved well and are not fit for use.
Time permits, I'll upload some extra audio mp3s to Mediafire and let you know.
Thanks for your interest.
Best,
Rami

Lol...Rami, it's a saying ;) you know, like "curiousity kills the cat"...although maybe it is one of the more tasteless ones out there...anyway...
