You don't understand why some pianists achieve fame and others don't?
It's about popularity, something that strikes a chord with the masses.
I agree. I know some amazing pianists, who can play everything and anything, but don't have any personality at all, and becasue of that they will never strike that chord with the masses.
Look at Lang Lang....no doubt that the guy has massive talent. Just look at some of the things he does in his Carnegie Hall recital, for a 19 (or howveer old he was, he was aroudn that age) it really is impressive. But now look at him, he just doesn't play musically or anything, he just play for effect. He has an amazing abilty to connect with an audience, but what sort of audience? He seems to be hated by the vast majority of serious musicians....except Barenboim :-ssss but he still says that LL has to develop more as an artist on other aspects of life if he is to be really great.
Yuja Wang so far seems to specialise in encores that we have all heard before. At least Volodos is actually mindblowing.
I might go to her recital in May at Queen Elizabeth hall and ;isten. At least if I get bored listening I can just stick some ear plugs in and enjoy the view
