Capriol Suite
on: September 21, 2007, 06:40:02 PM
I've just started working on my first transcription of an orchestral piece... Peter Warlock's Capriol Suite, originally for strings and arranged for piano by a chap I've never heard of, Maurice Jacobson. A 1939 edition from my favourite second-hand music supplier... since discovered I could get it free online, but hey... a nice edition from a good bookshop, I'm not grudging the small sum I gave for it.
Anyway, it's not a difficult suite by any means, but I'm having a hard time getting the melody in this bit to come out right... it seems to get lost in the surrounding chords. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I tried - and found it hard, too. The melody came out better when i played the melody notes slightly before the chord notes.
But then - im not really the person to give piano playing advice :-)

To make the melody stand out, the corresponding keys must accellerate faster than the other notes (obviously) and is actually much easier to describe than do.

Such is life! Ah well... will keep working on it! Thanks for the comments! I may be back with more questions from the other movements when I get round to starting them...
