crazy piano solos
on: September 19, 2002, 06:08:30 AM
I love it when Billy Joel and Elton John go off on these improvised solos on their live albums.  Unfortunately, it is not enough for me.  I'm looking for a live or studio album from some artist that is filled with improvised and solo'd rock piano.

I saw Supertramp live last week, and a Rick Davies solo that went on for 5 minutes, has sparked a flame in me.

If any of you can suggest any artists or albums that contain a lot of improvision/piano soloing, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks

Matt

Cziffra's Improvisations are almost inconceivable, the most spectacular eye candy I have ever witnessed.  His fingers are like spiders skittering across the piano, he does 5 octave arpeggio patterns in 2 seconds, octaves with total movement conservation, his playing is simply amazing to watch.  I have this video if you want to messag me.

I Haven't seen or heard  Cziffra's improvisations though I do have several of his recordings.

These statements may offer a clue as to how I will feel about them:

"Watch Hamelin or Cziffra's improvisation
you will drop your jaws on the floor."

and:

"Spectacular eye candy"

But how do they sound? How musical are they? Do they stand on their own musically?

I think the original poster would appreciate Jarret's first CD "Facing You".  Spectacular ear candy.

Everyone's different. I am the same.
