Help in identifying music piece (Do Re Mi Do So?)
on: October 08, 2007, 02:53:59 PM
Hi all,

I need help in identifying a piano piece that I've heard for a couple of seconds over the television. It's a pretty popular romantic piece that restaurants sometimes play in the background.

I only manage to work out the first few notes, cause I can't quite seem to be able to hum out the rest... and I don't want to confuse anyone if I've made out the notes wrong.

So here's what I work out.

C-D-E-C-G
(...... it goes on but I can't remember how to hum)
C-D-E-F-D (and this is what I think it sound like)

Pls help me! I thought the piece was really romantic and soothing. Thank you.

Update: Hi, this thread was really funny to follow, lol. I totally love all the suggestions you people gave and enjoyed listening to those pieces. But anyway sjskb found the piece I was looking for. ^____^ It's called Sundial Dreams. Pls read the thread (cause it's really funny), and the piano sheet is available below thanks to sjskb .

Isn't that the sequence of notes in the low brass and strings right before the trumpet fanfare in Finlandia?

I wouldn't call Finlandia "romantic"... But I've no idea what it could be...

is this romantic? I'd said that it is more than romantic... quasi super romantic or something. And C-D-E-C-G is not a main theme in my eyes.

Oh thanks for the replies. I did a search on finlandia on youtube but it doesn't sound like the one I was looking for...

Here's a something I tried to work out ...
C-D-E-C-G
(...... it goes on but I can't remember how to hum)
C-D-E-F-D (and this is what I think it sound like)

Any ideas? I think it's rather popular and even non-musical ppl would have heard this before probably in some malls, restaurents or tv that could have played this. Thanks for the help.

Check out the Bach Arioso.  Sort of similar melodic contour, although not exactly the same pitches.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Wow, that's a really nice piece. But it's not what I'm looking for. But thanks for the help, really appreciate it. ^__^

The one I wanted is something non-musical ppl would have heard... like ballade pour adeline.

That would make it too easy and its more fun this way.

;) No, it's not that. But thanks. Interesting to note that this is the second Sibelius composition suggested, heh.

Hi all, I wonder if you can help me identify a piece of music.

I heard it on a Western film on BBC2 screened about 10 years ago. Unfortunately, i cannot remember the name of the film or anyone in it. but it was 1950's.

The piece had the following note sequence:

C

Any help would be much appreciated.

I would really like to provide more information, but problem is I heard that over my cable provider channel, that is an empty channel that shows the company's logo and number, playing random music 24/7. *sweatdrop* I know... if it was a film, drama or even commercial, I would have search youtube. So here I am, trying my luck on the forum.

Hi Thal,

I'm thinking this could be the opening to Bach's Prelude in C, but then it's very close to the Prelude in Bb. It's entirely possible it is the beginning of a work by Finnissey, or the beginning of a Gregorian chant.

Hopefully that helps, why don'y you search melodyhound.com?
