Is there a "typical" college audition repertoire?
on: October 11, 2007, 01:01:13 AM
I know that college audition requirements vary at each school, but are there certain pieces / types of music (sonata, etude, invention, etc.) that are typically found in auditions, particularly at a state university (not a conservatory)?  Thanks.

Generally, one is safe if one has five types of pieces:

-Bach Prelude and Fugue
-Beethoven sonata
-Virtuosic romantic work
-Etude (Liszt, Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov...)
-20th century piece

Best,
ML
