Dussek, Op.20 n°3
on: October 17, 2007, 06:43:52 PM
Hi:

A little background:
i have been playing for 3 years, starting from scratch at 36 (i am now 39). I average 1 hour of practice per day (i try to be consistent, that is i rarely play more than 1 hour, but i do play every other day).

I have played many Kuhlau and Clementi sonatinas, pieces from Schumann and Tchaikovsky "Albums for the young", and a lot of Czerny etudes (they are  a little boring, but my teacher insists that they are useful to build my technique). I guess i have played pieces up to grade 5 ABRSM

Now, i am in the process of learning Dussek Op.20 n°3.
It is a nice 2 movement sonata (sonatina?), but not very known. It is coming, but slowly...i wonder what grade should it be considered. I dont give too much importance to grades, but i feel it is harder than others sonatinas i have already learned.

- Has anyone played it?
- What ABRSM grade is it assigned? I guess it should be around the same level as LvB Op.49 sonatas, tough i didnt tried them yet.

If you look at the score of the Dussek's, it does not look very difficult. But, if you look more carefully, you can see that the LH is very changing (compared with other sonatinas, where it is more "stable").

Thanks in advance

I have had a quick look and would think it is a grade 6/7.

Not played this one myself, but i have a tendency to play neglected composers and have played a couple of his sonatas.

Keep up the good work old chap ;D

Thanks Thal to take the time to look at the score  :)

You confirmed what my own experience is showing: its difficulty is above grade 5. So, that explains why it is coming SLOWLY  :-\ :-\
