How do you advertise your studio?
on: October 26, 2007, 01:37:25 AM
Please share methods you use in advertising your teaching.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I don't have a studio but based on experience, these are the most common ways:
Have fliers or business cards ready for people in your wallet. If you have a student whom you are close with, they will usually refer you to his/her friends/acquaintances. Then these business cards would come in handy. It is common too to have those "fliers" stuck onto bulletin boards(usu. in most schools) that have those detachable phone numbers that can just be pulled out at the bottom.
Since you are a piano teacher, it would be a good idea to go to a good music store and befriend the manager/staff there and shop there frequently. Where I'm from, you can get discounts if you're a teacher, so that may not be such a bad idea to be loyal to that shop. That way, when people ask them to refer them to a good teacher(which I hope you are), they will, of course, refer to you.
Tell all the people you know that you are teaching and looking for students, there is a good chance that they know someone looking for a piano teacher. Spread the word.

Less common ways and only when you have students but need more ;it would be very effective and worthwhile.
Have a student recital that's open to the public. You can charge or not if you want; usually it would be a good idea to let the students pay the recital fee and "rent" a church for the recital. People who have an interest in piano will obviously come and hopefully, if your students are good performers, well, 'nuff said.

other ways:
Let your students who have the ability to compete play in local competitions and hopefully win. There maybe some unsatisfied parents around that may want to switch teachers hahahahahaha or just need a better teacher.
That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

If you're talking about a home-based studio, then delivering flyers door to door (if in a safe neighbourhood) and putting ads in a local paper are good choices. If you are renting space and have a business, I would advertise in more than one local paper and create a website with information about your studio.

The process of advertising your website is complex. If you get to that stage, write back! Good luck.

You CAN learn to play the piano and compose in a fun and effective way.

I do have a domain.  Please share your web advertising knowledge!  I've been reading up on SEO and the like, making small changes in the wordings and such.  It is a home-based studio and for obvious reasons I don't advertise my address on the studio site.

Random idea: Buy a car  that draws attention, like that ugly Citroen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_2CV

and paint something like PIANO EDUCATION, CHEAP, CALL XX-XXXX-XXXX, and drive  it.
. I read a story about a beginning teacher doing this, and he got 20 new students in a week lol.
