Hi guys,
i bought a new piano stool about 6 mths ago and , last week the screws came out of the hinges so the lid comes off, what a piece of junk 200 for a load of crap, what makes it worse is the music shop says its wear and tear and wont replace it , so i have to repair it myself . . i guess its the sign of the times i have see piano stools as old as piano like 80/90 years old and now we cant build one to last six months , who is getting fooled here.

I would take the stool back and demand they replace or fix it. Obviously there was something wrong if the thing fell apart after only six months.

If you don't get satisfaction, I would threaten to report the business to the Better Business Bureau (BBB in Canada) or other such agency that oversees unethical business practices.

Such a threat often compels business owners to 'see the light' and do what is necessary to make the customer happy.

If they don't acquiesce, then follow up with your threat and report them.

Businesses hate bad publicity, but if there is no agency to report these bad business practices to, tell them you will let everyone know not to do any business with them.

You could even threaten to stand outside their place of business with a placard stating the same thing.

Don't ever piss me off! :o

6 months? Fair wear and tear? Eat my shorts! Don't know which country you're in: here in the UK we have the 'Sale of Goods Act' and most countries have something similar saying basically that items like that which don't do their job _must_ be (properly) repaired, replaced or equivalent action. DOesn't matter how cheap it was (200 what? In most of the usual currencies that's not particularly cheap anyway), it's still supposed to be of 'merchantable quality'.
