New to the forum... hey everybody!
on: November 11, 2007, 02:39:47 PM
Hey everybody,

My name is Matt and I'm 14.  I've been playing the piano for a little under 7 years.  I've just started to break the barrier into the advanced works.  I've mostly been posting in PW under the name "Debussy20".  I'm glad to find a place that's as obsessed with piano as I am.

Stuff I'm working on:
- Chopin Etudes Op. 10 No. 1, 12
- Brahms Cappriccio Op. 76 No. 2
- Debussy's Girl with the Flaxen Hair (Prelude 8)
-Clementi Sonata Op. 26 No. 2

I'm loving this place already!

Matt

Hey, I'll be participating in my first competition (a concerto competition) in December... the winner(s) will perform with an orchestra in a pretty big concert hall! I'm excited about it.

Welcome Matt !!

You'll notice that many people play the piano and yet are cynical, superficial, misanthropic, unsensitive, judgemental, elitist and snob.

Don't let this happen. Keep loving music, keep your musician sensitivity and empaty from dying, keep allowing music to make you a better person with a greater insight and let music nurture your sensitivity and spirit.

I hope that's what you'll find here on Pianostreet and will remember this day as the day you open the door to a world of friendship and creativity :)

Indeed and some think they know everything.

Welcome Matt and keep up the Clementi.

Thanks Thal,

The Clementi is tougher than I thought!  This isn't the sonatina in C anymore  ;D

If you're interested in Clementi, look at Op.40 No.2 in B minor.

Indeed, that is a bit of a step up in difficulty. I happen to think Clementi is an excellent composer for development and a nice contrast to Mozart.

An excellent suggestion from Mr Viking.

The Hummel Sonata in F sharp minor is amazing.

Stated with authority.

The woman I studied with when I was your age was a superb teacher and a great pianist in her own right. (She didn't accept me as a student because of the level I was at, but because she was a neighbor!) She always had me working on a Bach piece, mostly WTC Book I, and I've been grateful to her ever since. There's no better way to learn how to bring out inner voices (and pay attention to fingering.)
