Short Music Courses
on: November 17, 2007, 06:12:11 PM
Are there any short (1-1.5 year) piano courses at any of the conservatories, basically something one could do between other professional degrees? I'll be completing a BSc in Physics in another year and a half, and have been thinking of studying music seriously for a year in a conservatory, probably after a 2yr MSc, but as far as I know there are no such short courses available. Any inputs? thanks
jc
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

No, there's nothing like that.
Very good students can get the chance to do a concentrated course for 4-5 years instead of the common 10 years, but that would require all your time and wouldn't leave you much time to study for another degree.

There is always the Performer Diploma, which is in essence a year or two of study with a certain faculty member, at the end of which one presents a recital.  I don't know the caliber of your playing, but if you believe that you've had exceptional musical training growing up, this would be worth looking into.

Best,
Michael

I'm giving my ATCL recital on the 4th next month, so would it be a possibility to join Trinity for a year or so and give the LTCL at the end of it? is that what you're referring to by a performer's diploma?
