Any experiece with Dyslexia?
on: April 13, 2004, 11:12:05 AM
Just wondering if anyone else has had a student w/ Dyslexia, and how it affected their learning/playing apttitude, if at all?  I have a young student with Dyslexia and because I can't actually see that much where it is hindering him, (he does very well, even though his Dyslexia is severe) it's difficult for me to know what I have to do differently,....if anything at all.
In fact.....I didn't even KNOW he had dyslexia until his Mother told me after almost 8 months! And is it possible that if it hasn't hindered him in anyway yet, that it could later? I appreciate your help.

Thanks
Shag :)

I'm not very aware of what dyslexia is.  I hear that it is the reading of the order of words in reverse from what most other people read so sentence structure is mixed up.  Can you tell us what it is exactly?

To be perfectly honest, I am not an expert on Dyslexia. I know people with it see things backwards, not like a normal person. There are different degrees to which a person can be afflicted. You can see individual letters backwards, are whole words....instead of left to right, you would see them right to left...or the ind. letters might just be backwards...I think like looking in a mirror. I have some friends with children who have this. And most take at least 1 special class to help them. I guess what I was wondering, was if they would see notes backwards too ....the stems on the other side....going the opposite direction, etc. I don't have experience in dyslexia, so I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
