16.5 years old (grade 11 in high school)

god I can't believe I'm this old already.. I still clearly remember back to 6th grade.. i feel like an adult, particularly my parents, saying life passes you by so quickly ~ like a blink of the eye :/

and at 5 years of playing piano now (when I really started learning music actually)
if only I had been able to start sooner >_o

yeah, ditto-
I'm 16, can't believe it- I mean in 2 years I'll be 18 and auditioning for college (I want to study music, of course. ;)) Kind of scarey.
I've been playing for 8 years, but I wish more of those years had been with a good teacher- I could have been a lot further along than I am now. I'm not doing bad (In spring '02 I was in grade 3 music, now I'm getting into 8+) but I think I could've been a lot better if I had had a good teacher that whole time. Not to mention the fact that I would've had more theory!!!!! I'm learning it now and it helps SO much, I don't know why my former teachers wouldn't teach me any but the barest basics!!! Guess they thought I was too young. Weird.
Anyway, for those 8 years I've been playing piano about 4 of them have been with lessons.  ::)

Jack - Yep, a mini one. I wanted blue but my parents waited until the 23rd to buy it and by then there were maybe 30 left in the entire state, all of which were silver. The guy at Sharper Image said there wouldn't be any more blue ones until february or march, so I decided on a silver one. I love it! I just wish the battery lasted longer  :-\ oh well. I'm still trying to decide what to name it... You have an iPod, don't you?

fourty wasn't nice, but now that i've accepted that i'm over fourty everything's ok again.  in fact, i like it better.  it's only other people that can make you feel bad (if you let it get to you) -- now i just laugh.  i can still do what i did when i was 18.  i ride my bicycle for 30+ miles in the summer and on good days don't get the typical 'old lady' syndrome (take a nap for an hour in the afternoon).  only my daugher occasionally makes me count the difference in my age and my three year old.  she is good motivation to stay in shape.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

i can still do what i did when i was 18.

As I count the weeks down to my fortieth birthday (6 to go) I find your statement to be very true.  I always thought I'd be freaked out by turning 40.  Afterall, my grandparents were in their forties when I became cognizant of age.  But, I have found that, for me, life just gets better each year.  I wouldn't trade the last 22 years for anything.  That certainly isn't to say that it has all been a bed of roses.  The most powerful lessons in life are often the most painful ones.

The only regret I can see of growing older is coming to the realization that even if I grow to be 125 I will still not have enough time to learn all I want to learn.  My advice to the "younger" crowd (you can all decide which age qualifies you for that crowd) is to not waste a second on the petty stuff.  Be you, be true, it only gets better.

OK, enough of the fatherly lecture kind of stuff...get out there and live life (crap, I did it again) :)

to chopinisque,
we may exhibit our age on a forum (where everyone is somewhat hidden anyway) but in real life we may be seeking that elusive dream with creams and exercise.  i have a few secrets.  cocoa butter.  i've had three children and have no stretch marks.  it's not the regular cocoa butter, but a sort of beeswax kind that melts when you put it on.  i've found that if you let yourself go after childbirth, for many women it's all downhill.  but, if you get right back into your bathing suit, no matter how bad you look, you can heal stretch marks instantly with cocoa butter and a little sun.  what women often do is go hide.

my other secret is exercise and diet.  if you exercise, it makes you drink more water, which makes you eat less food.  also, you tend to crave the food you need instead of junk food.  which makes you feel better, which makes you look younger.  i think (when i'm not studying late at night) i could get away with 30 something.  who really cares anyway, except us!

Euch, tell me about it. I'm twenty now, and I was gutted! I don't want to be an adult. Adults are supposed to know stuff about taxes and money and current affairs and ... useful things. I barely even know what tax is and damned if I know anything that's going on in the news right now...

LOL yes i can totally relate to that. i'm quite happily still under the wing of my parents- i'd like to get my own flat, but am still lacking knowledge and about anything to do with bills, tax, the concept of getting a job hahahaha. i'm such a bum!
