Looking at the above website on Biblical musical instruments, the description of the chordophone does sound like some kind of proto banjo.

Therefore, it is just possible that Jesus did indeed play the Banjo.

Shome mushicologisht you're turning into, Thal! Do you suppose that, if is is eventually possible to prove beyond resonable doubt that He did in fact play the banjo, that was what started the guitar-strumming happy-clappy lot on their way? If so, it might be argued that Jesus has a lot to answer for...

I would go further and suggest by the description of some of the instruments on that site, that Jesus could have played the tambourine as well.

This could explain why it is the favourite instrument of said happy clappy's.

Though not simultaneously with the banjo, surely?

These folk have really caused that instrument to become an abused phenomenon...
