Recommendation sought for free music notation software
on: December 09, 2007, 02:52:09 PM
I love Audacity for recordings and I am wondering whether there is an equivalent for music notation, and I am unhappy with having to have multiple licenses to have my music notation software (a finale product whose name I can't remember) in multiple computers.
Thanks in advance. This is for classical contemporary music, so some flexibility in the symbols and instructions would be nice.

I have both Finale Notepad and Noteworthy Composer.
I liked the Noteworthy Composer enough that I paid the small amount they charge for the full version. It is not as good as a full Finale or Sibelius but perfectly adequate for my needs.

This is what i found with one search at google:
https://ace.acadiau.ca/score/others.htm
I don't really know them all, just some from years ago when i used linux more often.
One ...acceptable one even comes with the SuSE Linux Distribution, but there may be other distributions which provide one as well. Other than these, i guess with a little bit google you'll find more. Definately more than there are for windows.
