Variations on an original theme
on: December 14, 2007, 11:26:50 AM
Hello everybody
I just had an idea: somebody could give an original musical theme (melodical) and everybody can write or more variation(s) on it. What would you say? Everybody in his own way, as he or she likes it: baroque, classical, romantical, modern, however...
Would anybody be interested in trying this out? I'm not very talented in inventing musical themes so if anybody wants to start this...
Greetings and best regards

A 21st century, pianostreet Diabelli or Hexameron?

For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert. (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)

I'd love to do this, but at the same time, I don't feel like suggesting a theme, as my melodical creativity is too connected to my concept of harmony; I would deem it rather unfair to covertly impose that method on anyone.
On a side note, how about collaborating on creating a progression? One person - one note, max. 4 entries per person, a total of 24 notes (can be repeated, obviously, and without octave indication).
Let's try starting with... D

It technically is one note (just multiple pitches). And I didn't say where in the bass it is. So my suggestion still counts.
