Beginning to teach
on: April 18, 2004, 07:37:38 AM
Greetings.

My aoplogies if this has been brought up before and I didn't notice the topic. I'm a senior in high school, and I taught two students last year for a while. I had no strict method of teaching, though, so I don't think I did a particularly good job of imparting knowledge upon the younger generation  :P.

I'd like to know if there's anything one must know before they start teaching piano to others (younger children, especially), or if getting beginner books for students works fine by itself. Are there any formulaic methods you proffesional teachers have for turning kids into virtuosi, or do you just play each lesson by ear so to speak?

Thanks in advance,

Motrax.

Oh Boy, I don’t know even where to begin… ;)

Ok, have a look at this thread: I discuss the peculiar way I teach.

Then have a look at this thread where a similar question to yours has been answered:

There are many other similar threads on the “Teaching” board.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
