I guess the most prestigious competition for your age category is the Van Cliburn competition for outsanding amateurs. At least you get to perform in the same hall as the great Van Cliburn competition!!
It appears that entrance to the 2011 competition is already closed. All 75 competitors are already chosen. Isn't that weird?
Would you suggest any piano competitions with good reputations open to 35+ years old? I just found some after googling but I guess there must be even more...

I think this sounds really cool! There are a number of typos in the descriptions, which makes me feel a little like somebody would just take my money and run, but I absolutely love the overall concept, whether this particular competition is for real or not.
