Funeral March
on: January 27, 2008, 02:39:39 PM
Does anyone know what the grading is for Chopin's Funeral March. I know that the sonata as a whole is Grade 8+ but it's this movement in particular that I'm interested in.

Thanks

hey redbaron!

just a note of warning. this 8+ grade of the whole sonata is misleading.

according to the abrsm itself, the complete sonata have its place in the FRSM level, the last and nightmarish one. of course it is by definition "plus" than 8th grade, but we could rewrite it as something like 8+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ or 8+12 ;D

about the third movement, i´d say it´s about grade 7.

I agree. Asa whole, this is a very difficult Sonata, with the Funeral March section being a bit easier. However, capturing the tragic mood of this movement does take a lot of emotional maturity.

if you let me add, i´d say that capturing the tragic (and somber) mood of the whole sonata does take a lot of emotional maturity.
